Making Play dough

On Thursday, we had a fun and sensory experience making play dough. Morah Rivky showed the children how she was following a recipe to make the play dough. After it was mixed, each child was given a ball of dough to play with and shape.
This process opens the children's minds to the idea of being able to create a new product from other items. We will be doing many different projects like this and is the beginning of the child's understanding of science. On a more simpler level, the activity of playing with play dough fulfills a child's need for sensory input. It also will be a two step art project, because we will be painting it red this week.

On Friday, we had such a great time shaping and playing with the challah dough. In the beginning of the year, Morah Bella and Morah Perel help the children with shaping the challah. As they grow to understand that we are shaping dough that is then baked and eaten, we then encourage them to use their imaginations and shape themselves. This week all the Morahs' hands were covered in flour and busy. Expect pictures next week!
